Milk
There is quite a lot of controversy on the subject of milk, this is probably due to the fact that its highly proceed. One would think if there is this much controversy on a food item then perhaps its not good to put into your body? You would not hear this about vegetables because its well known that they are indeed healthy for us.
Some say that raw milk is good for us and that actual Milk that you get in the shops have been processed to the point where its lost the enzymes ie. lactase which helps break down lactose - something many people have an intolerance to.
Others say mothers produce milk to feed their children – humans, cats, dogs, cows, goats etc… and that we are the only race who insists on drinking it continuously during adulthood even though after the age of 7 we are unable to digest it properly.
Something I find amazing is a cow’s milk has all the nutrients needed to assist a calf growing into a full sized cow in a relatively short period of time. So if we are drinking it - what is it doing to us? Its something we shouldn't be drinking a lot of for that purpose alone. However it is in every supermarket and has nutrients, but in saying that how much can we actually absorb or use? A leaf off a tree has nutrients but we all know our body couldn't break down the leaf let alone absorb its properties...
Its also been said that drinking milk can cause calcium to be leached from your bones (as milk is very acidic), that the mucus from the milk causes such disturbances in the intestinal tract as mucosa layering and prevents nutrients from being assimilated and absorbed.
Also Milk is said to be one of the most common food allergens!
So instead of saying if its good or bad for you - think about this: how do you feel when you drink milk? Food is meant to make you feel good inside! Its suppose to be fuel for your cells, infuse you with nutrients, and give you energy. So if its not doing this - find an alternative such as:
- Rice milk
- Oat milk
- Soy milk
- Almond milk
- Goats milk
Yogurt
Is considered a health food (natural yogurt, not sugared) as it goes through a fermented process whereby it contains friendly bacteria which is needed in the gastro intestinal tract.
Mundella have a great range of high quality yoghurt which have the highest content of friendly bacteria per 100mls. To read more about the benefits of friendly bacteria visit their website.
Cheese
Is generally high in saturated fats and cholesterol. To much of it can cause all kinds of problems inc. allergies.
Most cheese’s have been so highly processed that they are now considered as junk food. Some children’s cheese snacks are like plastic!
As with anything, if its made naturally and hardly tampered with then eating in small amounts is fine as you get the benefits. It’s when a food is processed and changed that problems begin to happen as the body does not recognise it as food anymore.
Certain cheeses and dairy products are good for you as they are made naturally eg. yoghurt and cottage cheese – the benefits of them are still available.
